Statement of Purpose for program titled:

THE ART OF TAKING CARE OF YOURSELF Ô

            The program titled “The Art of Taking Care of Yourself” has been designed by Dynamic Interactions, Inc. to introduce professionals to how “burnout” effects both personal and professional lives.  Designed to introduce an accelerated culture to the effects of "burnout" on both a personal and professional level.   The purpose of this program is to introduce and demonstrate specific skills that prevent stress and maintain perspective.

            In a culture addicted to adrenaline and stress we find that we lose perspective and often experience "burn out." This entertaining, informative session guides the participants in taking care of themselves.  Highlights include the six stages of burnout, and setting healthy boundaries.   Learn how to maintain perspective in your life and how to set the healthy boundaries that empower you as well as your family, your friends and even your peers!   We need this program at our company -- 1-800-648-3367

The Art of Taking Care of Yourself is a discussion of how obligations and a loss of perspective facilitate "burned out" feelings in people.  The purpose of this program is to introduce and demonstrate specific skills that prevent "burnout."  Specific objectives include the following:

1.    To introduce participants to the detrimental effects of burnout.

2.    To demonstrate the different effects of the "six stages of burnout."

3.    To demonstrate specific revitalizing methods.

4.    To increase awareness of how negative situations develop strength rather than weakness.

5.    To have participants practice asking for their needs and getting their needs met.

6.    To facilitate an understanding of how dysfunction affects any system.

 Overview of Content

a)       Getting What you Need is a discussion of how it is appropriate for a healthy person to ask for basic needs.  This is also a demonstration of how teachers can ask for their needs.

b)      Co-Dependency in the Workplace demonstrates how all systems are disrupted by different individuals’ dysfunctional tendencies.

c)       Strength from Adversity is a demonstration of how negative experiences can be expanded into positive and strengthening experiences.

d)      A discussion of Self Esteem For Survivors will demonstrate to educators how they can develop, encourage and maintain a healthy self esteem.  They will leave this component with a personal philosophy of what their self-image really is.

e)       The presentation of “Recovery” will introduce the ongoing process of recovery.

note:        The above mentioned programming will all be covered although it is subject to slight variation to meet the specific needs of the client and the participants.  This programming is supplemented with appropriate activities, dissuasions and/or questions and answer periods.

The Six Stages of Burnout 

discuss cycles of burnout and how it has damaged effective education.

 

Maintaining Perspective

write why they are in education and then adjust that reason to develop an empowered perspective of the job of education.

 

Martyrs for a cause

discuss why it is inappropriate to "hurt" ourselves for "the good of education," and note why so many educators do.  Then point out how this "pain"damages the purpose of education.

 

Recognizing the Little Self

say how childhood experiences dictate the way we see the world as we grow.

 

Creative play for adults 

practice playing "childish games" and discuss their importance.

 

Children and their lost childhood

discuss what children are expected to be by parents, schools, communities, and media and list the damages caused by "lost childhoods."

Homework:

-Participants will start a self esteem journal

-In their journal participants will list how or why they are "lovable."

-In their journal participants will list things, books, songs, movies and people that make them feel good about themselves.

-Participants will practice play.

-Participants will develop, create, or find symbols of themselves.

-Participants will practice an empowering vocabulary.

-Participants will practice taking complements.

-Participants will practice giving complements.

-Participants will set physical boundaries around their work life and their home life.

Coaching Focus:

            During this session, after seeing it modeled several times,  the Participants will practice taking car of the self esteem or themselves and practice exercises that could build their own self concept.  The teachers will practice being supportive of their students and of their peers.  Finally the participant will practice asking for support from a support network.

Transfer to Classroom / to Students:

           After going through the self esteem component of this workshop the teacher will be able to recognize low self esteem in their students.  Once teachers recognize low self esteem teachers will have several ways to empower a positive self image in that student.  The students will receive positive and meaningful encouragement from the teachers.  The teachers will know when to ask for help for their students and when to ask for support from their peers.  The teachers will be able to use empathy and reflective listening when communicating to the students and with their peers. 

            Eventually students will demonstrate pride in their school work or in their other abilities.  Through simple self esteem exercises these students will be able to say at least one thing they do well.

*Day One sets the foundation for the training, therefore the second day will expand on the issues discussed on day one.
